Ready for a New Year

I’ve been spending a lot of time
Thinking bout how it would be
If only he would realize
That he should be with me
But now I think I’m getting tired
Of sitting here and yearning
Time to take my tumbled thoughts
And set them to turning onto
What a year it’s been
Was it just a year ago?
Sitting in this same place
Looking out at different snow
And contemplating breaking the heart of my best friend
Knowing that my life would never be the same again
Can I have a new year now?
I think about each person
Who has played a role in this
A year of brand new handshakes
Each warm embrace, each kiss
Each glass of wine. Each conversation
Each epiphany
Leading me on this journey
To sweet self-discovery
And happiness
What a year it’s been
Was it just a year ago?
Sitting in this same place
Looking out at different snow
And contemplating breaking the heart of my best friend
Knowing that my life would never be the same again
Can I have a new year now?
I spent a lot of money
On what could be wasted time
But I refuse to see it in that light
I’m moving only forward
On a path that’s only mine
And if I hadn’t done what I’ve done
I wouldn’t be where I am
And I wouldn’t give this up for anything
What a year it’s been
Was it just a year ago?
Sitting in this same place
Looking out at different snow
And contemplating breaking the heart of my best friend
Knowing that my life would never be the same again
Can I have a new year now?
My bank account is empty
But my heart is so fulfilled
I know I’ll find a way to pay
My rent and all the bills
I’ve learned that all the answers are
Inside if I just listen
Feeling more complete each day
Pieces that were missing
Are there
What a year it’s been
Was it just a year ago?
Sitting in this same place
Looking out at different snow
And contemplating breaking the heart of my best friend
Knowing that my life would never be the same again
Can I have a new year now?
I’m ready for a new year now
